Part of the statistic

When people mention the word statistics what is your initial thoughts...COVID-19, right?

The hype around the world has centred on this virus, we still have prevalent diseases and conditions from which individuals are suffering. I do not mean to lessen the seriousness on the effects that Covid has and does cause.

Today, I want to focus on another topic.

Cancer. The big 'C'. A word we don't want to hear. Many of us have been exposed to this word several times before, - family members, friends and possibly even yourself being diagnosed.

How do you react to something that alters your world. Does everything feel like a blur? Does your mind feel like it's racing at record-breaking speeds and not slowing down but spinning and spiralling down and out of control. Are you the opposite, by having an initial feeling of being numb? Hoping we are dreaming - that this is unreal and don't want to accept the diagnosis.

It is also difficult for family and friends of cancer patients to come to terms with the diagnosis.

World Cancer Day.

Let us remember and celebrate the lives of those who we have lost to the disease. Though they are no longer with us on earth, they forever live on in our hearts along with the memories made with them which we cherish.

To those that have been diagnosed, know you are not alone. Please don't let your hope and faith diminish.

Repeat after me:

I am an overcomer, I have been through a lot, I am still here and will continue to fight each day.

Yes, maybe a few physical punches aimed at the boxing bag is great to release tension and stress.

Also remember, you are not alone.

Joining a support group and being surrounded by your nearest and dearest can make a positive impact. Check out this link to join a CANSA support group.

I pray you will be healed. Please feel welcome to send me an email or leave a comment. I will be there to listen and provide support. They say sometimes it is easier telling your problems to strangers that it is to those closest to you.

And now let us show some appreciation to the ones who can stand tall, having beaten cancer - those in remission. I can only imagine the painful journey you took to get to this point of being cancer-free. You are an inspiration to all.

Cancer has an impact on all of our lives, not only those diagnosed. I want to raise a glass to everyone - in remembrance of the ones passed on, the fighters who continue to battle on each day, the resilient cancer survivors, as well as the individuals which form part of their support systems.

Sending much love to you all.

As mentioned before, comments and emails are most welcome. :)
